Best beaches for children around Agia Galini
Updated: Jun 28, 2018
Here are some of the good beaches I have been to myself with my two year old and find perfect for both parents and kids. Organised places where you can relax together with your family and kids can enjoy the beach life.
Triopetra (meaning three stones) is given its name by the three majestic rocks that rise beyond the peninsula which divides the beach in Small and Big Triopetra. The beach of 'Small Triopetra' is a beautiful sandy bay with clean, calm and shallow waters, ideal for small children.
It is well organised with sunbeds and umbrellas and a family friendly taverna called 'Apanemia'. The food is good and you can eat with your mind at ease, while your small ones amuse themselves by the playground provided.
Directions: Taking the road from Agia Galini towards Spili/Rethymno you take a left turn after around 15km towards 'Saktouria' village, which is the same way to Agios Pavlos beach. Distance time appr. 40 min max from Agia Galini, the road is paved with asphalt.
An lovely long sandy beach stretching far out along the messara bay. Close by the mountain rock is the organised part of the beach with a restaurant and a snack bar. Swimming here is fun for kids and they can enjoy the freedom of movement along the beach. You can easily spend the whole day here until late afternoon to view the majestic sunset. Kommos is just before the town of Matala. Leaving Agia Galini you take the road towards Heraklion and take a right turn after Timbaki town, towards Kamilari and Sivas villages. You will find kommos after the village of Pitsidia.
Kalamaki is another beautiful long sandy beach that children will love and enjoy playing and swimming with its fine sand and shallow waters.
At the beginning of the beach is a pleasant promenade of small cafes, tavernas and shops.
